Sciatica…Which Type?

Can you fix sciatica?

Yes. But…you must know the mechanics of the sciatica you have.

Two common examples are:

Discogenic Sciatica – caused when a disc bulge/herniation is compressing the nerve.

Stenotic Sciatica – whereby there is a narrowing of the central nerve canal.

Why is it important to know which type we have? Because they behave very differently to each other.

Discogenic sciatica will respond positively to passive extension restoration – using the disc recovery position to change hydraulic pressure in the disc and pull the bulge back inwards. However, Stenotic sciatica will become worse with this approach, as we have further narrowed the central canal that the nerve sits in.

As ever…success is determined by first approaching each case with curiosity, not assumptions. “It depends….”

We must thoroughly know the context of each case BEFORE we present solutions.
